Biography of Prof. Dr. Zeki Gökçil.
Prof. Dr. Zeki GÖKÇİL was born in Karacakılavuz, Tekirdağ. He completed his primary and secondary education in Tekirdağ and ranked first in the entrance exams for Işıklar Military High School, from which he graduated as the top student in 1978. In 1984, he graduated from Gülhane Military Medical Academy’s Faculty of Medicine, earning the title of medical doctor. He served as the Chief Physician at the Balıkesir Army Supply School Infirmary. Between 1987 and 1992, he completed his specialization in the Department of Neurology at GATA (Gülhane Military Medical Academy) and in 1992, he began working as a Neurology Specialist at the Neurology Department of Çorlu Military Hospital.
In the Department of Neurology at GATA, he became an Assistant Professor in 1992, an Associate Professor in 1997, and a Professor in 2006. In 2011, he earned a second specialization in Clinical Neurophysiology. He retired from GATA in 2012 with the rank of Colonel Professor and served as a part-time faculty member at the Eastern Mediterranean University (DAÜ) Faculty of Health Sciences in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus from 2013 to 2022.
Prof. Dr. Zeki GÖKÇİL conducted studies on the “Comprehensive Oklahoma Program for Epilepsy” at the University of Oklahoma’s Faculty of Medicine (USA). He completed EEG training at Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty in 1995 and EEG/Epilepsy training at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine between 1995 and 1996. He speaks English and is a member of the Turkish Neurology Society, the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE), and the Turkish Epilepsy Society.
Prof. Dr. Zeki GÖKÇİL has authored over 100 articles published in national and international journals, presented more than 150 papers, and delivered around 80 speeches and chaired sessions at national congresses.
Prof. Dr. Zeki GÖKÇİL continues his professional practice at his private clinic in Ankara.
